Berlin, March 12, 2020 Due to current events, the Information Center under the Holocaust Memorial as well as the houses of the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse (Documentation and Visitor Center and Chapel of Reconciliation), the Günter Litfin Memorial and the exhibition at the Marienfelde Refugee Center Memorial are expected to be closed until April 19, 2020. Guided tours will not take place.
The Field of Stelae of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe as well as the open-air sites on Bernauer Strasse and at the East Side Gallery will remain accessible without restriction. Both institutions regret this step and ask for understanding.
Uwe Neumärker, Director of the Foundation Memorial: “With this decision, the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe wants to act responsibly and with foresight, as well as to support the general health-promoting measures to help contain the spread of the virus.
Axel Klausmeier, Director of the Berlin Wall Foundation: “With this decision, our foundations are taking into account the current requirements to slow down the spread of the virus, but exhibition and information facilities are available to visitors in the open space”.
We will adapt our further actions to current developments and will endeavour to ensure that visitors can access the exhibitions again as soon as possible. At the same time, we are in close contact with our service providers, cleaning and security staff as well as speakers and visitor support staff.
The offices of both the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe Foundation and the Berlin Wall Foundation will continue to be available to answer questions about all of the monuments and places of remembrance they look after.
