On Monday, 7 March 2022, the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, H.E. Gordan Bakota, and Counsellor Ivana Karanušić visited the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in the run-up to the country’s IHRA Presidency. Immediately after the welcome, the conversation with Director Uwe Neumärker focused on the dramatic events in Ukraine as a result of the Russian war of aggression, which reminded the Ambassador of the situation in 1990/91 in the former Yugoslavia and the Serbian fighting against his country. During the guided tour through the place of information, the guests were deeply impressed and touched. Finally, the ambassador signed the guestbook: “Right now you can feel how important it is to educate the new generation about the Holocaust.” This can only be done through cooperation between the IHRA member states, for which Croatia wants to commit itself.
