On April 28, 2025, a high-level working meeting of the German-American Dialogue on Holocaust Issues took place at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, attended by representatives of the US State Department (including Ellen Germain, US Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues), the Federal Foreign Office (including Christian Heldt, Special Representative for Relations with Jewish Organizations, Antisemitism Issues, International Sinti and Roma Affairs, and Holocaust Remembrance, Mareike Geipel, Deputy Special Representative of the Federal Foreign Office, and Ralf Beste, Head of the Department for Culture and Communication at the Federal Foreign Office) as well as the two memorial institutions USHMM (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum) and the Foundation Memorial. On behalf of the Foundation, Director Uwe Neumärker, Deputy Director Ulrich Baumann, and the scientific staff member responsible for international relations Adam Kerpel-Fronius participated in the consultations.
Following the meeting, the two foreign ministries published a joint statement on the results of the meeting and agreed on continuing and deepening cooperation, in which the Foundation participates intensively, particularly in the area of education.
The next day, the American and German participants visited the Sachsenhausen Memorial and the House of the Wannsee Conference, where they spoke with staff members of both institutions about current developments and challenges for educational work at the memorial sites.
