In its meeting on 25 January 2001, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe approved several further important steps in the plans for the structural design of the Memorial and the exhibition concept for the Information Centre. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bundestag President Wolfgang Thierse, said on Friday in Berlin that this represented a significant step towards the realisation of the resolution by the German Bundestag concerning the establishment of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.<\/p>\n

The Board of Trustees has appointed a Design Working Group. Working in conjunction with the Board’s Historian Group, which is responsible for the thematic concept for the Information Centre, the Design Working Group will develop a design concept for the centre and present this to the Board of Trustees by spring. Berlin exhibition designer, Dagmar von Wilcken will be part of the group. Other members of the working group are the architect, Prof. Peter Eisenman, Board of Trustees member Dr. Salomon Korn and the Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr. Sibylle Quack.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Board of Trustees agreed on a series of construction and design details and approved the design additions for the field of steles presented by the architect, which take into account the need for wheelchair access.<\/p>\n

The Board also approved the inclusion of recommendations regarding security aspects in the planning phase.
