Monika Grütters, Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media, welcomes the five millionth visitor at the Information Centre of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

Today Federal Commissioner Monika Grütters, together with Uwe Neumärker, Director of the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, welcomed Daniela Horn as the five millionth visitor at the Information Centre of the Holocaust Memorial. On her 18th birthday, the student of the Luther-Melanchthon-Gymnasium in Wittenberg visited with her classmates the exhibition at the Information Centre. Monika Grütters and Uwe Neumärker presented her a bouquet of flowers and the catalog of the permanent exhibition. Daniela was very surprised and felt honoured by the personal greeting of Monika Grütters.

Federal Commissioner Monika Grütters, Trustee of the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, emphasized:  »Five million people since 2005 at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe – a place that commemorates violence, horror and inconceivable terror. This haunting Memorial unlock its impact. It is a place of mourning and contemplation in the heart of the German capital. Five million visitors are the living proof of the unrestrained need of the visitors to come to terms with the inhumanity of the National Socialists. The victims of the Nazi regime, who we commemorate here, compel us to remember National Socialism and its inhuman ideology and so to strengthen our sense of responsibility for our democratic values.«
