U.S. Secretary of Defence visits the Holocaust Memorial

Mr. Ashton Carter visited the Field of Stelae and the Information Centre of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe on Monday, June 22, 2015. He was accompanied by Ambassador John B. Emerson.

Mr. Carter was received by Dr. Ulrich Baumann, deputy director of the Foundation. During the 20 minute tour of the exhibition in the Information Centre, Mr. Baumann outlined the history of the memorial, its concept and its current significance as a site of remembrance at the core of society. The Secretary of Defence appeared impressed and emphasized the importance of the visit to him personally. He referred to the importance of this site of memory in his entry to the visitors' book as well and thanked for the memorial's implementation. At the end of his visit Mr. Carter laid a wreath in the Field of Stelae and commemorated the victims of the Holocaust.
